A Woman's Place is a site specific project which is taking place in Winchester from February to October 2005. Its inspiration comes from the remains of the site of an old nunnery in the city of Winchester. The site as it is today (see above) retains little of its original form but a fraction of the original site is uncovered and laid out for the public to view.
From now until October 2005 visual artist Alex Hoare will be working with women in Winchester exploring the site. The themes of the piece will be memory, imagery, stories and spaces for contemplation.
The project will take the form of workshops, an exhibition/installation in the Atrium at the Theatre Royal Winchester in February, small performance events and storytellings throughout the year, a work in progress showing at the Hat Fair in July and will culminate in a large multi media installation event in October 2005.
